Obituary for Joseph P. Lawler

Joseph P. Lawler, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on July 18 at the age of 35. Joe is survived by his mother Jean Lawler-Dineen and stepfather Bill Dineen; his siblings John Lawler (Tina), Megan Lawler (Fred), Molly Dineen, and Jason Dineen; his niece Ava Lawler; and countless other family and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his father Timothy Lawler and stepmother Diana Lawler.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February, 25 1983, Joe’s adventurous spirit was present from an early age and continued on into adulthood. He loved music and played drums in a band while in high school. His collection of Phish CD’s was extensive and reflected the many Phish concerts he went to with his friends. After graduating from Catholic Memorial High School in 2001, Joe left for college eager to explore the world. He was a 2 time Global Medical Relief volunteer to Honduras while at Marquette University. He lived in many different cities over the years from Columbia, South Carolina, Madison, WI back to Milwaukee and then to Phoenix, Arizona back to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and finally to Denver, Colorado where he loved being able to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with life-long friends. A world traveler, Joe traveled to a number of South American countries and visited Europe numerous times including backpacking across the continent with his brother John and visiting Megan and Fred in Switzerland and France; and of course he made a trip to Ireland as well.

After graduating from Marquette University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences, he was a High School science teacher in Phoenix for one year and then a year back at Catholic Memorial where the students loved Mr. Lawler. He then continued on to get his Masters Degree in Applied Mathematics from DePaul University in 2013. He loved math and was able to make a career out of it, most recently as a Technology Research Business Analyst at Northwestern Mutual and a Strategic Venture Data Analyst at DaVita Health Solutions. Joe was an intellectual and could do anything he set his mind to whether that was in school, at work, or at home, helping his parents with numerous renovations or baking the best M&M Chocolate Chip Cookies ever. His family was incredibly proud of him and all of his accomplishments.

The family is especially grateful to the Hilbert family’s support throughout the years.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on August 4th at St. Bernard Parish in Wauwatosa. An Irish wake will follow at Trinity Irish Pub for family and friends to gather and celebrate Joe’s life.

In memory of Joe, memorials may be made to NAMI Greater Milwaukee at
