Obituary for Lawrence “Larry” Nelson

Lawrence B. Nelson was called to his heavenly home by his Lord on Tuesday, August 21st, at the age of 81. Lawrence (Larry) was baptized into God’s family in His love on Valentine’s Day, 1937 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Racine, WI. Larry and his family were long-time residents of Brookfield, and most recently Pewaukee. Larry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carol (nee Warhanek), along with their three children, Larry (Mary) Nelson, Patricia Nelson, and Mark (Stephanie) Nelson; cherished grandchildren Tom (Michele) Nelson, Callie (Sean) Pickner, Caitlin Nelson, Tim Nelson, Molly Nelson, Mikey Nelson, Allie Green, Sara Nelson, Jay Nelson, Laura Nelson, Joe Nelson, Cari Nelson: and great grandchildren Baylei Peterson, Garnet Nelson, Cassidy Nelson, and Layla Davis. Also survived by sister in law Torrence and brother in law Joe Lorenz, nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence W and Hedwig (Hattie) Nelson and sisters Janet and Margaret.

Larry retired in February of 1994 after a successful 38-year career as a court reporter in both Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties.   Much of his time in Waukesha County was spent working with the Honorable Judge Clair Voss, whom he had the deepest respect for.

While Larry had many interests, his foremost passion was studying the word of God and having it reflected to others in his daily living.  He also cherished spending time with family both in Wisconsin and at their condo in Florida. Fishing, camping, zoo trips, and other adventures were ways that Larry loved to spend time with his family.

Larry had a love of sailing and earned his Certified Charter Boat Captain designation, Coast Guard Captains license, and served as Milwaukee Power Squadron Leader commander. Larry provided classroom and “on the water” training for more than 17 years thru his affiliation with Sailboats Inc. His love of sailing was contagious and directly impacted the many people that he introduced to the joys of being on the water. This was one of the greatest joys of his life.
