Obituary for Monica J. Wieczorek

Monica Jean Wieczorek (nee Sagadin), age 73, of New Berlin, WI passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 26, 2018 after a nine-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Monica was born in Milwaukee on March 17, 1945 to Beverly and Edward Sagadin. She grew up in Milwaukee and attended Milwaukee Washington High School where she met lifelong friends and high school sweetheart and future husband Richard (Dick). Monica worked at Wisconsin Park and Recreation Association as an Administrative Assistant for over 25 years. She loved to travel and made trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Africa, Germany, Austria, and many Caribbean islands. She and Dick took the whole family on trips to Jamaica and Mexico where lifelong memories were made. Annually, she coordinated an extended family trip to a lake, usually Shawano Lake, where cocktail time came early and fishing, boating, and game playing were on the daily agenda. She was devoted to her family and prioritized time with them. She was an avid game and card player who was known to coax the extended family into games of charades and sing-a-longs on holidays. Monica was very smart and had a broad base of knowledge; she is one you would have called to “Phone a Friend” on a game show. She did her puzzles every day and loved watching old movies. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary and was always looking for a way and time to celebrate with her loved ones. She was a devoted homemaker, always having a home cooked meal on the table. She was organized and planned far ahead, requesting Christmas lists before Thanksgiving. Monica was a great bargain shopper and never passed up a good deal. Monica did not let living with breast cancer define her. She was positive and looked ahead with hope and anticipation. She let her family know she loved them and the grandkids (and granddogs!) always knew grandma would have something special for them.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Dick. She was a proud mother to Gregory (Desiree) and Douglas (Rebecca), and fun-loving grandmother to Madeline, Catherine, and Mason Wieczorek. She leaves behind her younger sister Meridee (John) Maynard and was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is also survived by many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Although we always knew this day would come, it is still difficult to imagine life without her. We will cherish our many memories and know she is always with us. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She would want you to have a drink and eat your dessert and “live well, laugh often, and love much!”

The family would like to recognize and thank the many supportive, compassionate staff from Seasons Hospice for their kind and attentive care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to HAWS or St. Luke ‘sister’ parish, St. Pius X, Gbagalape, Abuja, Nigeria. Checks payable to: St. Luke Parish, Memo: Nigeria.
