"Faith - Family - Friends - The Farm"

Glenn H. Zachow

William A. and Lillian (nee Fischer) Zachow welcomed their second son, Glenn Harold Zachow, into the world on June 2, 1931 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee. Glenn was preceded in life and death by his brother William Gene (the late Marilyn, Rita) Zachow. He was blessed with two more siblings, Gordon (the late Marlene) Zachow and Lois (Orville) Shine.

Glenn was baptized and confirmed in the faith at North Trinity Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. The family lived in Fredonia prior to their move to Milwaukee in 1937. Glenn attended Carleton Grade School and graduated from Custer High School in 1950.

William A. opened Zachow Plumbing in 1938. Along the way his three sons, William, Glenn and Gordon joined the business and in 1960 he passed the torch to them as Wm. A. Zachow and Sons. Glenn became a plumbing apprentice in March 1951. Glenn was proud of being plumber and maintained a reputation for honesty and quality in his work. Wm. A. Zachow and Sons has to this date employed four generations of Zachows.

Glenn felt the call to serve his country in February 1953. He joined the U.S. Army’s 7th Infantry Division and served in the Korean War for two years. Glenn and his family are forever grateful to nephew Randy Zachow for enabling and accompanying Glenn on an Honor Flight in 2015. It meant the world to him.

Glenn met the love of his life, Rose Mary Bemis, in January 1956. He knew immediately that Rosie would be his lifelong love. They were engaged in March and married on October 6, 1956. Glenn was deeply in love with and devoted to Rosie every day for the rest of his life.

The Lord blessed Glenn and Rosie with five beautiful children, Karen Rose (Claire) Zachow, Nancy Kay (Bruce) Bohrman, Daniel Glenn (Judy) Zachow, Thomas William (Dianna) Zachow and Amy Sue (Dan) Degner.

Glenn will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Nichali (Marisola) Xhelili Ciaccio, Tom (Andee Fromm) Ciaccio, Cait Ciaccio, Jonathan Taglienti, Mandy (Phil) Sebald, Olivia (Matt) McIlquham, Samantha Zachow, Marissa (Joe) Shiery, Alex Zachow and Grace Zachow.

Glenn and Rosie provided a beautiful example of what a life-long relationship could be to their five children and ten grandchildren. They unconditionally loved and steadfastly supported each other and their family. Glenn and Rosie were the nucleus of the family not simply through biology, but because their kids and grandkids loved being with them. Celebrations with Bupa and Grandma were full of love and laughter.

Glenn and Rosie had their 50th wedding anniversary celebration on May 6th, 2007. Rosie was born into eternal life on July 2, 2007. Glenn missed her every day until he was able to be with her again and forever on December 7, 2018.

Glenn was a devout servant of God. He evangelized through his actions more than through words. His children and grandchildren watched how Glenn conducted his honorable life and the values he expressed through his deeds. His lessons will live on through his family and to the many who were fortunate to have him as a friend.

Glenn and Rosie purchased an old farm house near Dalton, WI in 1976, which they and their children restored. “The farm” became the hub of so many wonderful family events, from large family reunions to quiet weekend getaways for the two of them. Glenn spent almost every hunting season there along with his sons, grandkids and his buddies.

Glenn had many lifelong friends, including the late Rollie Hackbarth. He and his buddies spent many long weekends together fishing, deer hunting, playing cards and laughing. Sometimes the wives would join them on a lost weekend. Glenn was a master joke teller and made friends wherever he went. Whether traveling abroad or right at home, people were drawn to his good nature. He especially enjoyed his time with dear friend Loranne French, who brought so much joy and laughter to his life.

2018 brought two new and most precious gifts to Glenn, his great-grandchildren Jasper (May 29) and Anais (Nov 27). Both children were christened by his bedside days before he passed.

Throughout his life, Glenn believed in the importance of quality of character, commitment to one’s family, service to one’s country, dedication to one’s work, and faith in God. But he will be remembered for his quick wit, his stories, and the kindness and sympathy he offered daily. He loved greatly and was greatly loved in return.
