Making Funerals Personal

"My mom passed away last year. She loved gardening and sharing that hobby with friends and family through her beautiful bouquets and delicious vegetables."

"When I close my eyes and think of my grandpa, I see him wearing his old, beat up Harley Davidson baseball cap, and sitting on his Road King. I'll never forget the summer he taught me how to ride."

"My buddy loved sports. Somehow he always got tickets to the biggest games and depending on the season, he was always in either a Packer jersey or his prized Hank Aaron shirt. And if he wasn't watching a sport, it was because he was playing it."

Everyone is unique. Our interests, hobbies and life experiences make us different and create a different life story. At Harder Funeral Home, we believe that if everyone is unique, then the way we memorialize each person should be unique too.

Years ago, many funeral homes provided what were known as "cookie cutter" services. Everyone seemed to receive the same funeral, with the same songs and the same flowers. However, we are proud to say that we've always provided, and will continue to provide, services as unique and special as the person being remembered. Whether it be something as simple as serving grandma's favorite meal and dessert for the funeral lunch, or as large as coordinating a memorial golf outing and service at dad's favorite course, we encourage you to bring your creative ideas to us, and we'll be happy to help make them happen.

Whether you are planning a traditional service, or a cremation service, we want to work with you to create a service that best celebrates the life that was lived. Here are a few ideas…

A Memorial Release:

Balloon releases have always been popular, but there are other options available. Imagine releasing hundreds of butterflies, a flock of doves, or even filling the night sky with lanterns, in honor of a lost loved one.

Themed Attire:

There are a lot of sports enthusiasts out there. What better way to honor their passion, than by having friends and family dressed in their best sports attire? This works for other hobbies as well.

Special Music:

Music has always been a staple of funeral service, however everyone enjoys it in different ways. Perhaps having a harp playing during a visitation or some guitars and singing part of a service would help personalize the event. We can even help with bagpipes for a graveside or even something as simple as playing pre-recorded music.

Memorabilia:

A great way to share someone's life story is to "show" their life story. We encourage families to bring photos, clothing, sporting equipment, tools and any other special items. Items such as these bring to mind memories and contribute to some great stories. Our staff will be happy to have them set up ahead of time, allowing families the chance to enjoy great displays on their own time.

Personalized Memorial Folders:

Whether you wish to have photos included on memorial folders or a family prayer or quotation included on prayer cards the options and choices at your discretion. Many choices of register books, memorial folders, prayer cards and thank you notes are available to customize, as you desire.

Memorial Video Tributes:

DVD presentations are a great way to display photos of a loved one during a visitation. Families can have them created and brought in, or our staff can help create them. Memorial DVDs can make a great keepsake for years to come and copies can be made for family and friends to share.

Military Honors: Honor those loved ones who served in the Military,

Depending on the branch of service, we can offer that of: color guard, Taps, a gun salute or even pall bearers. We have contacts with all branches of the service to honor your loved one in the most appropriate way. In addition, we can apply for an American Flag and a Bronze Marker through the Veterans Administration as well as a Presidential Certificate honoring the life of your Veteran on behalf of a grateful nation.

These are just some of the many ideas that we have helped families coordinate and plan over the years. We also offer personalized merchandize and memorial items.

We would be honored to help you create services that are unique and appropriate for your family and your loved one.
